Tips and Advice - Dining Hall and Freshman 15

The dreaded Freshman 15, heard of it? Let me tell you, my readers, it is not a myth. What is this Freshman 15, you ask? It's when incoming freshman students gain 15 pounds in their first year of college, and it does happen! There's a dining hall with really good food, I know. Not to mention the horrid cases of anxiety eating, boredom snacks, and late night munchies. But you must resist the urge, my friends! And here's how with...

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DINING HALLS AND THE FRESHMAN 15

1) An obvious way to avoid the Freshman 15, go to the gym! I guarantee your school has one, so why not go check it out? You'll feel better, be more in shape, and maybe even meet a new friend or two!

2) If you're going to eat at the dining hall, know when they're open. You don't know how many times I've gone down just to find out they're closed. If you want to get crafty, like I did, snap a picture of their hours and make it your phone's lock screen.

3) I know I said this in my Dorm Tips, but take the stairs! It's so much better than using the elevator every time you go up and down from your room.

4) Get to the dining hall a bit before they open. It gets packed VERY quickly.

5) There are healthy choices in your dining hall - You just have to look for them!

6) If you have Ramen Noodles in your dorm, which I assume most of you will as it's insanely affordable, do not eat them every single night. And no, swapping out for pizza one night does not make it any better. Ramen is FULL of sodium and is actually really unhealthy. No more than twice a week if you absolutely must.

7) There are plenty of healthy snacks you can keep in your dorm. Ritz crackers, Special K cereal, protein bars, wheat things. If you have a mini fridge then your options are expanded that much more; fruits, vegetables, hummus, cheese sticks. Here are two great blogs that talk about different healthy foods you can bring to college with you:
