Not gonna lie, I can't believe I'm finally here. College. The thing I've supposedly been preparing myself for since I entered high school. All those good grades? That was for college. Ever doing my homework? For college. Even showing up to class in the first place? You guessed it, college.
It's funny, you know. I almost didn't want to go to college. See, I would have been just as happy moving out to New York and pursuing acting and writing. Though it's a much less guaranteed path, it would have been an adventure all the same. Still, I'm ecstatic to be here and finally on my own.
So, if you haven't guessed already, I'm dorming this year. For anyone familiar with Plymouth State University, I'm rooming in Smith Hall. As I've been told, the Party Hall. We'll see I guess. I have been lucky beyond lucky in the sense that my roommate and I get alone great, though. We've set up the room nicely, I think, for what we had to work with.
But the week went fairly well. Still getting in the groove of college life. Meeting new people, navigating campus, trying to get all the books I need for my classes.
Ah, yes, classes. For anyone who is extremely curious (As I am so sure many of you are *sarcasm sarcasm*) here is my official Freshman Semester 1 schedule:
Monday and Wednesday
8:00-9:15 am Childhood Studies
4:00-5:15 pm Composition
Tuesday and Thursday
8:00-9:15 am Stagecraft Fundamentals
11:00-1:00 pm Mathematics in Our World
5:00-6:15 pm Freshman Seminar (Marriage: Until Death Do Us Part or Until Something Better Comes Along?)
And no classes on Friday! Yup, I'm pretty satisfied with that. My classes don't seem too exciting so far, but I'm sure they'll pick up one the year takes off.
So, anything else worth mentioning about week one in college. I mean, most of what you guys really need to know is in the Tips and Advice section, I'd think.
For instance, go to your school's Opening Week activities. This week there was a hypnotist who came in and performed in the Silver Center (our theater). He took a bunch of people from the audience (myself included) and made us do all sorts of crazy things. One kid slow danced with a broom. Another completely forgot that the number 6 existed. One kid spent the whole time insisting that his name was Cha-Cha. It was hilarious and it was fun. Not to mention, you meet all sorts of people. Want friends? Go to the opening activities.
And keep your dorm room door open. Meet your hall mates! You're gonna be seeing them literally all the time. We put a white board outside and people write on it all the time. Just the other day we got "HMU" (hit me up) and a phone number. That was entertaining for the rest of the night. Talk to people, get to know them. You'll be happy you did.
So there it is. My first week at college. Is it what I expected? Not quite...not yet. Still getting used to things. But it's sure to get there, I'll keep you updated.
Until next week, see ya guys later!
